What happens when we die?
This is one of the big imponderables that humans have tried to answer for millennia. The answers are diverse and weave together the experiences of the bereaved and the deceased as everyone involved navigates this transition. With great respect and attention to cultural sensitivities, students in Camosun College’s Anthropology of Death class invite you to explore some of the different ways that death is conceptualized in different cultural contexts. By selecting one of the options below, you, the participant will embark on a journey through the eyes of the deceased. Each journey starts in the same place: a biologically dead individual lies on a table. Beyond this point though, the journey of the deceased, and the roles and rituals of the bereaved are incredibly varied. Even within a particular cultural context the experience can vary depending on the gender, age, socio-economic status, and moral character of the deceased. You will need to turn the sound on (or wear earphones) to follow the prompts in these guided experiences. Good luck, and safe travels.

“End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path. One that we all must take.”
